Online Application

  • Thank you for your interest in the Texas Academy of Figurative Art.

  • We try to keep the application process uncomplicated. We ask for only basic biographical and contact information that helps us keep prospective students informed of their status. We encourage all prospective students to visit the studios and meet with the director, instructors and other students in person prior to applying to the atelier program if possible. In fact, scheduling an interview is part of the required application process. We do this to help you get a clear understanding of how we approach the atelier educational process. TAFA’s program is structured in such a way that one half of the day is working in your assigned studio space on individual projects guided by the instructors, and the other half of the day working from the model or anatomy studies. The instructors will offer daily critiques and in the model room instructors will teach to the group as well as give individual critique & guidance. For your studio projects you will work independently most of the time, with the instructor offering individual critiques and mentoring. The atelier program requires students to develop personal discipline and ambition to be able to assimilate the instructor’s critique while working expeditiously through the curriculum projects. Please be aware that each student will be reviewed by the faculty at the end of each academic year in order to keep their place in the Atelier for the next year.
